ACLOC AWARD - Number One of Fabulous Four:

Attached is a full description with commentary on the Auxiliary Commandant Letter of Commendation (ACLOC).

As you will see when you read the commentary, this is an award that most of our working Auxiliarists should already have received and should continue to receive throughout their Auxiliary career.. Rather than re-quote the criteria chapter and verse let's elaborate a little on this award.

Serving in any capacity, any office, any task, any program. Pretty self-explanatory.  It is usually awarded for a specific or special task or achievement, but it can be awarded for extended service in a program.  It can be awarded with the "O" if the achievement is in operations context. You tell us.

The only question you need ask your self for this award is "Did this Auxiliarist do more than another typical Auxiliarists would do under the circumstances?" It need not be outstanding, it need not be well publicized, it need not be noticed throughout the local unit.

All that is required is that an Auxiliarist do more than the minimum expected.

• It seems to me that this describes a lot of our members:
• New members who enthusiastically jump in.
• Experienced members who labor long in obscurity on important jobs (the ones who never get recognized because they just get the job done.)
• Member's who make that little extra effort to:
• Always stay late and clean up the room.
• Brings the refreshments every month.
• Keep outstanding minutes of meetings. Best we've had.
• Always volunteers when a job needs doing.
• Counsels and mentors new members.
• Travels a long way at their expense to participate.
• Helps to assemble the newsletter or directory
• Does a great work at their FSO or SO job.
• Organizes the booth at the boat show.
• Takes two shifts at event when others do not show
• Maintains an outstanding and positive attitude and contributes very positively to the meetings

You could fill in many others I'm sure. In fact I wish you would send me additional ideas. Maybe if we list every possible example, folks will feel more comfortable in recommending fellow members.  This is not a one-time award. Additional awards can be recommended and awarded at any time and are indicated by adding stars. So we do not have to go through AUXDATA to see if the Auxiliarist recently received the award, because it doesn't matter. If there is another achievement or service performed, award it again!

The only time the ACLOC is not appropriate is when the achievement is high enough to merit the Auxiliary Achievement Medal (AAM) (which is number two of the Fabulous Four) and about which we will send information later.

THERE IS NO SHORTAGE OF AWARDS AVAILABLE. We should be awarding a few hundred of these per year at least. THERE IS NO COMPETITION FOR THESE AWARDS. If 20 folks in your unit deserve this award, get it for them!

You must provide the personal details (Name, Number, Flotilla, Div. time in the Aux, current office held (if any) and some details on why you think this person should be awarded. Just telling us that "Harriet did good stuff" will not work. We cannot sleuth the awards for you. But it's pretty easy

"On December 11th Harriet worked for four additional hours collating and stapling the flotilla newsletter, when the regular FSO-PB suddenly became ill. Harriet has stepped in to help in other instances where our flotilla was hard-pressed to complete a task."

"George has put in 200 hours this year in his IS position and this has resulted in our IS and AUXDATA data records being 100% completed each and every month. A first for this Flotilla. George also checks to verify that the AUXDATA records are correct and provides a month summary report to our Flotilla".

"These 20 people organized, purchased, cooked and served 300 hotdogs and hamburgers to the USCG during the USCG picnic"

So there are some examples. Send us that and we can take it from there.
