The New Website Submission Process:
There might some confusion about the new auxiliary website
submission process. Here is a step-by-step process...
- The unit decides they want/need an Auxiliary website.
- A CS officer is appointed. The CS can be the
webmaster, or a separate webmaster who works under the
guidance of the CS officer.
- The CS/webmaster builds the website (currently the
Auxiliary standard web authoring and management software is
Microsoft FrontPage). The site must be built following the
Auxiliary web policy
and along the way, the CS/webmaster should use a
check list to
assure that he/she has not forgotten anything.
- The CS officer presents the new website to the unit.
- The unit approves the new website...they should also
decide if this new site will reside on the
national server
or another server.
- The CS officer/webmaster publishes this new site to a
temporarily location...it could be on his/her ISP or use one
of the many free web hosting services. Again, this is
only temporary so the DSO-CS can view the site.
- Then the CS officer/webmaster goes to the
D13 website
Comms
Services webpage and completes and submits the
website submission form.
- The D13 (DSO-CS) receives the submission form and
reviews the unit's new website. He'll then e-mails a
reply to the CS/webmaster for corrections, update, etc...and
will ask if they'd like the space on the national server.
- When the site is ready for national review, the DSO-CS
sends a request for national review.
- National reviews the unit's site and either approves it
or asks for corrections. If approved...
- National sends an e-mail to the DSO-CS of the approval,
information on publishing to the national server and
user/access code information. The DSO-CS forwards this
information to the CS/webmaster.
- With this information, the CS/webmaster publishes the
unit's website on the national server.
- Then the CS/webmaster sends an e-mail to the SO-CS and
DSO-CS that the site is up and running.
- The DSO-CS adds this new site to the District list of
websites.
- National adds the website to the List of Approved
websites and to the Flotilla Finder. Now the unit site
can compete for the annual "Best of the Web" competition.
For those units who prefer to host their site on a server
other than the national server, the process is very similar.
For details, contact the
DSO-CS.
Remember, regardless where the Auxiliary website resides, it
must abide by National Auxiliary Website Policy.
