You're In Command resources available for
downloading, PLUS - more PA ideas to kick your PA efforts into high gear
Hi All,
Just a reminder - there are numerous resources available to
help you support the You're in Command program, including posters, radio and TV
Pubic Service Announcements (PSAs), etc. They are available for
viewing/listening/downloading at "http://www.uscgboating.org/command/resource/other/resources.htm".
The PSAs can also be targeted to anglers, hunting clubs, etc.,
as well as newspapers, radio stations that carry sports and news/talk format, TV
stations, etc. This is also a great time of year to get out and visit your
media contacts personally, and present this information to them on a CD.
I strongly suggest you send links of these PSAs, posters, etc, to your local PA
contacts at marinas, yacht clubs, schools, etc. to help get the word out about
recreational boating safety. While you're at it, ask them to provide a
link to the America's Waterway Watch site located at "http://www.americaswaterwaywatch.com/".
For the Yacht Clubs and marinas, you can also offer to send a speaker to discuss
the Waterway Watch program, show the video, etc .
Need another idea t kick your PA program into overdrive? -
make sure you take advantage of the events page on this year's NSBW site.
Post your boating safety event at "http://www.safeboatingcampaign.com/events/post.htm".
This can include events scheduled for National Safe Kids Week (30 APR - 7 MAY),
Earth day, etc.
The A department will likely send a broadcast email to the
6,000 media contacts in our database urging them to visit the events page
located at "http://www.safeboatingcampaign.com/events/view.asp. This should not,
however, be relied upon as a substitute for sending out news releases to your
local media contacts.
Lasts and certainly not least - make sure you capture your
successes on film (or preferably digital photos). We can use them when
preparing our NSBW reports, as well as for a potential SITREP/Navigator story.
Sincerely,
Ed Sweeney
